Buyer pays NOTHING for professional, CAREFUL packing and insured shipping.(That is for U.S. LOWER 48 only. Elsewhere in our solar system – See eBay’s Intergalactic Shipping Calculator.) All Customs forms will state actual selling price of items shipped internationally. . . About 1930, most likely before the death of Tom Mix in 1940, someone took up their paints and brushes and created this portrait of a cowgirl wearing a ten gallon hat. But that’s not the strange part. What they painted in on was the top of a single drawer table. Later – someone else cut a piece of linoleum the exact size of the painting and set it down inside the gallery that surrounds the table’s top surface. Luckily, they did not glue it down. The table was dead, fractured, falling apart, but I wanted the brass knobs so I bought it at the secondhand store where it had come to die. Most surprises in the wonderful world of used furniture are bad ones. Not so here. What a thrill! Overall, including the table rim which now functions as a frame, it measures 22 ¼” by 23 ½”. The depth of the gallery is 1 ½” outside and ½” inside (between the top edge of the rail and the surface of the painting. Because it painted right on the surface of the table, it’s quite heavy. It weighs almost 8 ½ lbs. The paint has scaled somewhat, but I don’t care. I love it just the way it is. Along the bottom, where it was probably signed way back when, there is surface loss. I’ll show in a minute, so just keep your chaps on. Blame Tom Mix and others for popularizing the “ten gallon hat,” and thank the Stetson folks for clarifying. They said at the time, “Our hats of this type hold approximately 3 quarts of water.” Whatever! That’s still enough capacity to use for watering your horse. The rest of the description with more pictures continues below this memo about my two "Prime Directives:" First: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and everything starts at $9, sometimes even less. I never end auctions early. Second: I rarely clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. Normally I push enough dust aside to note any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I'll tell you about it. So rest easy and have some fun. Why not place a little tiny bid right now so's you don't forget about it later. Had “She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed” let me keep it another ten or fifteen years, I’d have eventually taking it to a paintings restorer I know and had her touch it up and put on a nice coat of varnish. (I’ll put a coat of water based, clear varnish on it for you before shipping it if you like.) You can the eight screw holes that held the tabletop to the skirt, and you can also see a square in each corner where the legs once were. Notice the shallower border along the bottom. That was at the front of the tabletop – above the drawer. NO DISAPPOINTMENTS One thing is certain: It is the only one in the world. GOOD LUCK My preferred method of payment is PayPal. Buyer pays NOTHING for professional packing and insured shipping.(That is for U.S. LOWER 48 only. Elsewhere in our solar system – See eBay’s Intergalactic Shipping Calculator.) All Customs forms will state actual selling price of items shipped internationally. expressyourselfrm Store NR Cowgirl Horse Hat Tin MeXiCaN FoLk ArT RoMy Painting "Bienvenidos" Santa Elena Canyon ~ Rio Grande Terlingua Estudio Description: Southwest ~ Mexican Folk Art ~ RoMy Original Paintings Title: "Cowgirls are Forever" Size: Approx. 6 1/4" x 6" (painted on thin TIN) Hola! Muchos Gracias for stopping by my Terlingua Art Studio near Terlingua Ghost Town & Big Bend National Park (Texas) along the border of Old Mexico! For your consideration today I am offering this original painting with NO RESERVE:DESCRIPTIONThis little pony is so happy ~ he knows ~ "Cowgirls are Forever" ~~~This is a highly collectible piece of Mexican Folk Art for all you collectors! It will add an extra special touch to the decor of any casa! Or office workplace! A charming little "tin" with lots of Old Mexico FiEsTa colours ~ purple, lavender, blue, turquoise, pink, burnt orange, black, gold and coral! Enough colours to match the colour scheme of any casa! Also this would look nice in a Mexican restaurant, too! ABOUT THIS PAINTING This Mexican folk art painting is an ORIGINAL work of art, brightly painted with acrylics on a piece of thin TIN which makes it especially charming & folk artsy (tin is a most popular "canvas" to paint on in Old Mexico) Also, this piece, which is approx. 6 1/4" x 6", has been finished with several coats of non-yellowing acrylic enamel to protect and enhance its beauty for years to come. Ordinarily when I paint one of these "tins" I punch a hole in it so that it is ready to hang ~ however, this time I decided to leave the choice to you, the buyer, to decide how to display your new artwork! This tin can be displayed just as it is by placing it on a small easel, or propped against a fireplace mantle, a window sill, a bookshelf, etc. You could even attach a picture hanger hook on back ~ or with a hammer and a nail, just punch a small hole at the top ~ or perhaps two (one on each side). You could then mount it directly to the wall ~ or make a nice hanger for it with wire or raffia or ribbon! Or attach a magnet to the back (no glue needed) and this tin will stick to your refrigerator, file cabinet ~ or anything metal! Plus because of its durability it would make great outdoor decor! Lots of ideas for you to choose from. And of course you can always frame it! The front of this painting is signed by the artist, and the back is signed, titled and dated (2010).This tin is nice displayed by itself ~ or in a collection! (just as they decorate their casa in Old Mexico ~ tins all over the walls!)Also these make a wonderful gift!! ~ABOUT THE ARTISTThe artist ~ RoMy ~ that's me! I live on the border between Texas and Mexico ~ near the Big Bend National Park ~ a few miles from Terlingua Ghost Town ~ and I love the history and culture of this area ~ a raw, still quite primitive land ~ a desert land where "rainbows wait for rain." The last few photos in this description show my outdoor studio which faces Santa Elena Canyon and the Rio Grande, the natural border between Old Mexico and Texas ~ and it is from this primitive setting ~ 80 miles from town ~ that I find most of my inspiration for painting. (in the photos Mexico is on the left side of the river and Texas is on the right)I enjoyed the visit ~ Gracias! And, please, while you are here take a moment to View My Other Items For Sale Presently, at eBay auction I have several paintings of various sizes from small to very large painted on tin, canvas, wood and ceramic tile. Bones on the Range This pretty Rancher is headed to the back forty. There’s a Cattle Rustler headin’ this way . . . so she’s roundin’ up her herd. I made this set using my original patterns. The little girl’s arms, legs and head are sewn separately. Her limbs are wired for posing. She is painted and aged for a time worn look. Her face and fingers are needle-sculpted. She wears a flannel shirt with little black buttons beneath her removable vest. Her matching skirt is trimmed with suede fringe and has a leather belt around her waist. Her boots are detail stitched with flowers and leaves. Her removable hat completes her outfit. She is nearly 12” tall to the top of her hat. Her Skull Stick is made in several pieces and affixed to a wooden dowel. It is 11” long. Hittin’ the Dusty Trail! ~The Wild West~ Only two of this group are yet to be list. Check out my ME Page to find works in progress and coming attractions. PayPal is the only form of payment accepted. Please submit payment within 3 days of purchase. The item will be shipped within 3 days after payment has been received. Shipment will be via USPS Priority Mail for a fee of $5.00.
